(no subject)

Those who turn away from their education must be disregarded.

Those who disrupt the education of others must be punished.

But I wonder...what causes either of those things? What within our species would cause a being to shun the very act of learning? And what would drive them to then ensure that none others could learn?

Disgusting.

Kids will be kids.
I assume you've forgotten your childhood, Cyrus.

I embraced learning, not simply from school but in any and all corners of life. Quite the contrary, I remember it vividly.

To expect or to demand others be like you is unrealistic and morally improper. Let them be children and to learn the errors of their ways. You aren't their parents and you aren't the voice of authority - no matter how much you'd like to be.

Yes, children must learn the error of their ways. But these are not children, for the most part. They are far beyond the stage of development where disruption is permissible.

If you say so. I'd say discipline within reason. Generally by sending them to the headmaster. Or if they want to act like children, treat them like children and make them stand in the corner.

I do punish them. You have seen me assign essays to those who cannot support their behaviors.

However, I do not believe that sending them to the headmaster is a sufficient punishment. Those who I have sent do not reach there, and the few who have are not punished in any way. In short, I do not believe that the headmaster enforces any sort of punishment.

I'm pretty sure they don't see being assigned essays as 'punishment'. They likely view it as just more homework.

And if they shun the educational process to the degree that they demonstrate, it serves its purpose.

Seeing ignorance and disruption in every class I have taught.

Guess you've just got crappy students.

Perhaps. Yet this issue goes beyond my class, beyond this school.

[identity profile] water-and-steel.livejournal.com 2011-08-24 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
People like having fun, it's just a matter a of preference of time management.

[identity profile] will-be-god.livejournal.com 2011-08-24 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
An interesting statement. Would you say, then, that education is not "fun"?

[identity profile] water-and-steel.livejournal.com 2011-08-24 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Well no, but everything in general is about preference, no? Like, for instance, A likes history but B likes math and whatnot.

[identity profile] will-be-god.livejournal.com 2011-08-24 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Is that an excuse for A to disrupt B or vice versa?

[identity profile] water-and-steel.livejournal.com 2011-08-24 12:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes or no, depending on the situation. For it's worth, A might be bothering B for a reason.

[identity profile] will-be-god.livejournal.com 2011-08-24 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Elaborate. What reason would you excuse a disruption of the educational process?

[identity profile] water-and-steel.livejournal.com 2011-08-25 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
Well, everything depends, you might think A's botherings are not within reason, but who says anyone else didn't think of it as a-okay? Like that.

[identity profile] will-be-god.livejournal.com 2011-08-25 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
There is no excuse for disruption. Even opposition must be done in an orderly manner or else there is only chaos.

[identity profile] will-be-god.livejournal.com 2011-08-25 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
...I would be asking too much if I demanded you speak in something that is not nonsense, yes?

[identity profile] water-and-steel.livejournal.com 2011-08-25 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not nonsense if you took the time to actually consider people's personal thoughts and whatnot.

[identity profile] will-be-god.livejournal.com 2011-08-25 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yet you have provided no such thing. You believe that it is acceptable for a student to disrupt the learning process of others when there is no valid reason for them to do so. Certainly if the teacher is attempting to feed them misinformation then they must act, yet those who have interrupted my class have not stated such a belief, only doing so out of boredom or an inability to pay attention. In which case I ask them to leave. I will have no such drain on my time.

[identity profile] water-and-steel.livejournal.com 2011-08-26 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
No wonder they won't listen, you're just being one-tracked and not opening up to people's personal thoughts and whatnot.

[identity profile] will-be-god.livejournal.com 2011-08-26 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
It is not a "personal thought" to attack others during classtime. It is not a "personal thought" to scream and carry on while others are attempting to learn.

This has nothing to do with me and everything to do with the chaotic nature of sentient life in this world.

Because they can't APPRECIATE the things that FAR SUPERIOR MINDS tell them.

I am of course referring to myself, not you.

[identity profile] will-be-god.livejournal.com 2011-08-24 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
Egotistical as always. I hold no blame against those who ignore you.

[identity profile] pitticus.livejournal.com 2011-08-24 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Some people think they already know everything. That's why they think they're better than learning. It's nothing but sheer stubbornness! And sometimes, if they don't like you, they refuse to listen to helpful advice entirely out of spite! Too much pride does that, you know.

Or, they just don't take it seriously.

Those are my guesses.

[identity profile] will-be-god.livejournal.com 2011-08-24 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
They then ought to swallow their pride and simply ignore in silence, rather than turn attention away from those who wish to be educated.

...Do you believe this is an issue soly affecting those in my classes? Because this is not the case.

[identity profile] pitticus.livejournal.com 2011-08-27 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
No, it's in almost every class. Especially the ones where you have to sit down most of the time. So... maybe they're also just bored and restless?

[identity profile] will-be-god.livejournal.com 2011-08-27 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
If their minds are so astray, they ought not attend at all.

[identity profile] pitticus.livejournal.com 2011-08-27 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Tell that to them! They'd probably just make it an opportunity to walk out. I swear, some people don't take education seriously at all!

[identity profile] will-be-god.livejournal.com 2011-08-28 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
I have made it quite clear and yet they remain, only to take amusement from their actions.
