Aug. 23rd, 2010 01:28 amThe progression of time is a strange thing. Certainly I understand the process, both practically and scientifically, but from the standpoint of one who faces every day as it goes, the sensation is an odd one. Time, as they say, marches on, but time is also, as they say, relative. The latter is a scientific statement but also applicable to our perceptions. What is the solid measurement known as a minute may seem a near-eternity to someone, while it may be an instant to another.
The curious thing is that this seems dependent on mood. Yet that is illogical.
But many things are illogical in the world as it exists. That is a disgrace. But it is not the subject at hand.
Estimates of distance, of space, are not distorted in such a way, nor influenced by such things. Even the proverbial distance between lovers is taken as a metaphor rather than an honest perception. One would think that such a thing would be influenced by mood far more, yet it is not.
Time is simply a measurement.
